Yeah man, I totally agree with you. Good habits can develop without a counterpart.
However, through my observations of some couples. You'll be surprised on how much a good influence a woman can have on you. Some "bad" habits do change. Its different when you meet someone that brings the best out of you.
Though I'm not refering to a totalitarian, demanding, high-maintainence creature whos spineless and whipped ways causes a man to be nothing more than a helpless manlyless servant. (A woman like that is not worth pursuing, no matter how good looking they are or the number of "sweet" or lovely dovely moments you've experience with this person)
I'm talking about positive, growing and unspoken influence that a woman can have on you. (keep in mind, no one is ever perfect) Though I have yet to experience this myself, I've seen it through so many beautiful couples.
(ie. keeping place (room) tidy, being considerate of those closest to you, patient, loving, etc...)
Its a huge CHARACTER influence. Though it may not seem big nor important now, it pays great dividends in the long run. And this influence goes BOTH ways, not just one way.
Of course, it takes time to discover a character of a person...
Man, if anyone ever tried to apologise to me through a series of emoticons, I'd either throttle them or run away crying (depending on the level of emoticonage and the intensity of the original offense).
